This is a fun journal that I use to layer images and scribble a few things down. I made it a while ago and just picked it back up. I like to change up my projects often, whenever I get bored or stuck. 

He he, kinda silly.

Mini Art Journal: Part 1

I seem to be out a lot lately, when I am bored I play games on my phone or look for inspiration online. When I am home I don't always have time to get out supplies and create. Usually, I set out supplies and go to bed.
Time for a new journal. One that will fit in my purse. I went to Michaels and bought a journal (originally $3) for $1.50 it has a fabric/ canvas type cover. Perfect for holding paint and other mediums.



I started by coating the cover generously with gesso. First with brush strokes in one direction, let dry then another coat in the other direction.




I am not sure what I am doing with the cover yet, so I will get to that when I get an idea.




Inside, I used matte medium to glue pages together. I put waxed paper in-between sets of glued pages.




To make space for papers and other extras I ripped out pages using a ruler. I made sure to leave a couple of millimeters so the pages don't fall out the other side.

Once it was dry, I went to the second page and coated it with gesso.




To cut down drying time I used a heat gun. I used matte medium to glue papers and other background images in.




I used acrylic paint and a dry brush technique to add subdued coloring to the page. I then coated it with gesso, using a dry brush technique.
If pages seem loose once painted, I use tissue tape in the seam so it doesn't fall out.




Now it's ready for more paint, text, stamps and images. Having a few prepped pages will make it easier to journal on the go.

Art Journal: Zombies

Not too long ago I received a mail art call from a certain super hero. "Mail of the Living Dead"

Thats my kind of art! Zombies are always fun. I began making one and I was hooked. The fashion models in my magazines all had amazing potential. Here are some pages from my at journal.

I decided to reprint them as artistamps. Feel free to print them and use them too!

I already made some postcards for the Mail Art 365 project!

Vacation Journaling

Here are the pages I filled in while on our trip. I started them by glueing papers, clothing tags, a ticket, papers to write on, some library style pockets with papers in them, photos, stickers, and tapes. I did this using a "SMASH" style technique. Basically just stick it in there.

As I went along I added business cards, wrote in coloured pens, post cards, a map, and other random items. It really helped me organize my thoughts and stay positive about each ordeal as it came up.

Art Journal

I thought I would share more of my art journal backgrounds. I am going to write all over it later tonight. Feel free to print and use this for your own art! I got the image of the lady from an issue of Sommerset Studio. I am in love with their publications. I buy most of them. So much mixed media inspiration!

Art Journal

Since getting into mail art, I have been neglecting my art journal. Since I have been spending lots of time exercising in the sun, it has given me time to reflect. It gave me the urge to record these thoughts in my journal. I decided to combine it with my mail art. I have scanned and used pages from my last journal in the past.

To get this effect in my pages I squirt water colour paint directly onto the page, I used a large wet brush to spread it onto both pages. When I was happy with it I put a piece of wax paper in between the pages (to prevent sticking)Then continued with the next set of pages.

This is the page with some stuff added. I ripped out pictures from magazines, pages of an old well read book and scrap book paper. I like the torn edges. Cut edges have a different effect, try both. I put gesso on the pictures lightly then went over the edges again. I used paint all over the page to blend it into the background. I set a dye cut onto the page and stencilled paint around it. I saved the cutout for a future project. I used pens and markers to highlight and trace areas. I even used my fingers to apply paint. Get into it, Get Messy!
