Quick Skirt Projects

Hello! I have been working on a lot of things. Sorry for not posting much lately. Many new jewelry designs and even more daydreams of future projects. Updates soon, I promise.

I am planning some steampunk costumes with a friend and it has inspired a whole wardrobe of projects to DIY. I will share the results and tutorial references for you to try yourself. I have a lot of inspirations collected on Pinterest.

I have been daydreaming of making a full costume for quite a few years now, I am finally getting around to it. It helps to have a friend to work on it with, also helps that my friend is a model so photo shoot in the future! I have an extra sewing machine so we can work at the same time, help each other and discuss patterns and alterations. :D

I did a quick sewing project with my friend Creative Creature. She made a tutu type layered skirt they has a red t shirt for a waistband and lining. The top fabric is some spider web printed gauzy fabric.










The one I made is another t shirt skirt with an elastic waistband. So comfy.




I love upcycling and reusing t shirts to make cozy clothes that breathe. Please share your t shirt projects in the comments!

Flash Back: T Shirt Reconstruction

I recently got back into the track after around 14 months away. I miss roller derby a lot. I decided to make my return to a different league. Why? The friends that I made in derby that I kept in touch with either are no longer skating or they are skating with another league. It wouldn't be the same as when I was last there so a change of scenery should help me stay motivated. I am nowhere near ready to play competitively, but exercise is always good. Meet my new crew!

Now, on to the t shirts. These are very old, think early 2010. I watched a lot of ThreadBanger and bought some books on sewing. (the old crew is back to it and I enjoy their new videos) I am reviewing my old altered t shirts and going to work on some more. Putting my name and number on some new shirts will help my new team mates get to know me.

Here is a video that shows you how to make a pattern.

Tunic Large Mens T

Remove sleeves and cut a flattering neckline.

Turn inside out, measure and mark.

Pin then trim!

Sew sides, leaving arm holes open.

I used little scraps of fabric to gather fronts of straps. I tied a double knot and trimmed ends. 

Dress from XXL Mens T

First remove collar and sleeves.

Measure and trim to size or use elastic to fit it if you want it baggy, like I did. 

Use sleeves to make bust area, trim and pin. 

Cut strips from scrap fabric and sew them to top for ties.

Sew... top and add elastic.

Ta Da! 

I wear it with a bandeau so its not too revealing. 

Now to get out my stencils, paint and scissors to make some more tops!

Time to dust off the old blog.

Hello! Its been forever since I posted, I miss it so much. I feel like I have neglected being creative for way too long. So much has happened since... May? Is that really the last time I was on here? Wow, time to get caught up. So I was spending time doing the usual morning sickness, hanging out with family, working and walking my dog. My schedule was getting so full that blogging and crafting were the last things on my mind. Especially with a new niece born in March. Summer was so hot out, I was hiding out and reading a lot.

I did create a few little things before I had Myla. Some blankets, burp rags, soother clips and hair clips.

Picked up some soft fabrics, I ended up sewing 2 blankets for my niece and 4 for Myla.

Found a great mitred corner blanket tutorial at Apostrophy Designs.

I used flannel for one side of the burp rags and lightweight towel for the other, super absorbent.  

This is a little owl I appliqued and embroidered onto a blanket for my niece. 

Yep... not a lot of crafting going on. 

What inspires you? What projects are you working on? 

One more question, what are you reading? I am almost done reading the Millennium Trilogy and I picked up Bossypants by Tina fey for my next book. I don't know what to pick up next? Any suggestions?

Getting ready...

Yep, I am getting my mail art ready to go everywhere with me! I have been planning to put this together since I started making mail art. At first I was looking for something in stores, but nothing worked. I used the leftover fabric from the dress I made for an 80's party months ago. I
love it and I have a lot left still.











It is kinda boxy with an envelope style with a button closure. There is velcro on it as well, to keep it more secure.









Some of the things inside are:
*pre-cut 4" by 6" card stock, doubled
*stencils
*scissors
*glue stick
*double sided tape
*podge
*paint brushes
*couple stamps
*ink (for stamping and writing)
*calligraphy pen, extra nibs
*waterproof felt markers
